Denis was a founding Director of the Australian Coal Preparation Society.  He served on the Queensland Society/Branch and the National Board.  His service is listed below: 

Queensland Committee:

• 5 years on the Committee – 1987-88 until 1991-92
• 2 years as Chairman – 1987-88 – 1988-89. 

National Board:

• Founding member
• 3 years on the Committee – 1989 until 1990-91
• 1 year as Chairman – 1989-90
• 1 year as Vice-chairman – 1989.

• 2 Local Organising Committees including
• First Conference in Newcastle in 1981.

• Presented to the Queensland Advanced/Modern Course for many years
