Dick Sanders

Biography:

The contributions of Dick to the Coal Preparation Society are probably unsurpassed for someone who was never a member of any state or national committee – he was always keen to be involved, but has worked in a number of companies in which his close colleagues were members of the committee already. In recognition of his efforts, Dick received a Service Award from the Society. His service is listed below: 

Conference Committees:

  • Local Organising Committee for the First Australian Coal Preparation Conference 

Course Lecturer:

  • Development of course content
  • Lecturing at innumerable introductory and advanced courses 

Technical:

  • Author of the coal quality chapter for the Advanced Monograph Series
  • Contributing many papers to ACPS meetings, seminars and conferences, plus International Coal Preparation Congresses

 Other:

  • Updated the history of the NSW Branch of Coal Preparation Society and archived the records of historical interest
  • Served on Heritage Subcommittee for 50th Anniversary Celebrations
  • Contributed to the establishment of ACIRS (Australian Coal Industry Reference Samples) 

 

Dick worked for a number of operating companies and service organisations including BHP Central Research Laboratories, Project Mining, ACIRL Peko-Wallsend Mine and QCC Resources (established by Dick in November 1987)..
